TEXRail celebrates 2 million rides
Trinity Metro TEXRail celebrated 2 million rides over the Memorial Day weekend, marking an ongoing trend in ridership growth. In honor of the occasion, agency employees rode the trains to visit with passengers about TEXRail and to offer colorful commemorative t-shirts for riders.

Transit district aims for zero emissions in new 20-year plan
The North Central Regional Transit District has a 20-year plan to expand bus services, build an an electric-powered fleet to completely reduce emissions and improve its Santa Fe to Española to Taos route. The board of directors for the district, which provides fare-free service in four counties, including Santa Fe, approved the plan in May, said Anthony Mortillaro, executive director for the district.The new plan is an update of a 2015 strategic plan that takes into account the need to provide more energy-efficient service, and, it is hoped, will lead to the eventual use of 95 electric vehicles in the district’s fleet. Arizona Gov. Hobbs wants sales tax to pay for state transit projects
Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs is directly negotiating with Republican lawmakers who control the Arizona Legislature to try to craft a deal to ask Maricopa County voters to extend a half-cent sales tax that for nearly 40 years has paid for new freeways, bus routes and light rail transportation projects. And whether the efforts succeed will have implications for the rest of the state. The bid to put Proposition 400 on the ballot has an uphill fight despite unanimous support for an updated plan from the 27 mayors, three tribes and two counties who sit on the Maricopa Association of Governments, the regional planning organization that oversees the transportation spending. The transit industry is facing a significant challenge in attracting and retaining workers. According to the American Public Transportation Association, 96 percent of transit agencies are experiencing a workforce shortage, 84 percent of which said the shortage affects their ability to provide service. To overcome the challenge, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Houston Metro) has partnered with TOOTRiS, a childcare platform.
