Salary: $122,339 - $167,470 Annually

Job Description: The General Counsel provides professional counsel to the Board of Directors and District staff on all legal matters impacting the District; ensures compliance with federal and state laws; prepares and reviews legal documents; formulates District policies and regulations; fosters cooperative working relationships among District departments and with intergovernmental, regulatory agencies, and various public and private groups; provides highly responsible and complex professional assistance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required. Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to a juris doctorate degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience providing legal counsel in a governmental setting.

Licenses and Certifications: Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.2 and 15-301.2 NMRA). For more information on limited practice licenses, please visit
