We often highlight large transit systems on Transit Unplugged, but there are hundreds of smaller transit systems that are just as--maybe even more so--innovative who also provide those critical links in their community. Kendra McGeady, Director of Pelivan Transit, is one of those innovators. Her coverage area is thousands of square miles in Oklahoma, supporting the Cherokee Nation, other tribes in the area, and the wider community as well. Austin Transit Partners outlines five LRT options as part of Project Connect
Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) outline five options that will bring light-rail to Austin as part of the region’s Project Connect plan to expand transit options to one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the U.S.
The five options being explored represent what ATP calls a core system. When Austin area voters approved a November 2020 proposition to increase property taxes and dedicate a portion to the transit system, they were promised a bold expansion plan that included more than 28 miles of light rail. The five options ATP is considering range from 6.6 miles to 10.1 miles. Read More

Students win recognition from American Society of Landscape Architects for bus shelter design
Students worked in their class alongside Dallas Area Rapid Transit to design a bus shelter that recently won an award for its creativity and functionality.
In their design, the team considered factors like Texas weather and feedback on the city’s bus system from Dallas residents. It was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects, receiving the 2023 Texas ASLA Student Honor Award earlier this semester. Read More
