FTA Offers Drug & Alcohol MIS Training Webinars for Transit Professionals
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is offering a series of free, 90-minute training webinars designed to support transit agencies in meeting federal Drug and Alcohol Program reporting requirements through the Drug and Alcohol Management Information System (MIS).
These sessions are especially valuable for Designated Employer Representatives (DERs), compliance managers, safety officers, and transit leadership responsible for maintaining federal safety compliance. Each webinar provides a comprehensive overview of MIS reporting expectations, system navigation, and common reporting challenges faced by public transit agencies.
Why This Training Matters for Public Transit
Drug and Alcohol MIS reporting is a critical federal requirement for transit agencies receiving FTA funding. Accurate and timely reporting supports:
Compliance with 49 CFR Part 655
- Continued eligibility for federal funding
- Strong safety management systems
- Transparency and accountability across transit operations
As transit agencies continue to modernize fleets, expand service, and implement zero-emission vehicles, workforce safety and compliance remain foundational to reliable public transportation. MIS reporting ensures that agencies are meeting federal standards designed to protect operators, passengers, and the communities they serve.
This training also helps agencies avoid common reporting errors, reduce audit risk, and stay aligned with evolving federal expectations.
What the Training Will Cover
Each session will present the same content and will include:
- An overview of Drug and Alcohol MIS reporting requirements
- Step-by-step instructions on completing the MIS report
- A live demonstration of the Drug and Alcohol Testing MIS website
- Guidance on common compliance issues and best practices
- A live Q&A session with the training presenter
