About
New Mexico Transit Association, NMTA was established over twenty years ago to act as the collective voice for New Mexico public transportation. Ever since, we have been working to address the needs of the public transportation community and the customers they serve.
As an advocate for statewide support and development of sustainable, quality public transportation services in New Mexico, NMTA plays a crucial role in the state’s efforts to move toward environmental responsibility and improved quality of life for all New Mexicans. Public transportation provides significant environmental benefits by reducing smog-producing pollutants and greenhouse gases, but public transportation also helps our cities and towns reduce the cost and undesirable impacts of urban sprawl. Transit reduces the amount of green space that must be paved over for new roads and parking lots. It also makes urban and rural centers cleaner, quieter, safer, and more convenient for getting around - all important components to sustaining New Mexico’s communities.
NMTA provides ongoing professional development workshops and quarterly training for our members. We also seek to educate and inform the public and lawmakers about the importance of public transportation. Our goal is to act as an advocate for passenger transportation issues so that we can secure and enhance statewide funding for public transportation.
