Adrian Reyna seated as labor appointee by City of San Antonio to VIA Metropolitan Transit Board of Trustees

Trustee Reyna fills seat held for past eight years by Bob Comeaux

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 21, 2024) — Adrian Reyna, a lifelong San Antonio resident and third-generation public-school educator, has been appointed by the San Antonio City Council to serve as its labor representative on VIA Metropolitan Transit’s Board of Trustees.

Reyna succeeds Trustee Bob Comeaux, who term-limited off the board after eight years of service. Comeaux was part of several key initiatives during his tenure, including VIA’s Keep SA Moving plan that was approved by voters in 2020, and was instrumental in the creation of VIA’s Hall of Honor, which commemorates local leaders who have advanced public transportation in San Antonio.

Reyna, an award-winning U.S. History teacher, is in his 14th year working in the San Antonio Independent District. The last two years, he has served as a “Teacher on Special Assignment,” assisting the Human Capital Management Transition Team as a liaison between district leadership and the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel. Reyna is serving a second term as Executive Vice President of the San Antonio Alliance and is a founding member of PODER, the Social Justice Caucus of the Alliance. He also serves on the Executive Board of San Antonio’s AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.

“As a union leader and labor representative on the VIA board, I will focus on working with all stakeholders to center the voices and needs of working-class San Antonians and the workers who move VIA and San Antonio forward,” Reyna said. “I’m proud to fight in coalition with school workers, students, families, community organizations and other unions to create the city we all deserve.”

Reyna holds degrees in government and political communication from the University of Texas at Austin and spent two years as a legislative aide for then-State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte before returning to San Antonio to teach in his hometown. He also earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Trinity University.
