SWTA Hosts Record-Breaking 2024 Summer University
Fort Worth, TX – August 5, 2024 – The South West Transit Association successfully hosted its annual Summer Conference from July 29, 2024 to July 31, 2024 at the Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel in Fort Worth, TX. This year’s event drew a record-breaking attendance of over 250 industry professionals, including representatives from 41 states, 3 countries, and a diverse range of organizations.
The conference brought together 23 Federal Transit Administration (FTA) attendees, 90 transit system representatives, 64 associations and Departments of Transportation (DOTs), and 56 business leaders for a week of intensive learning, networking, and professional development.
The conference agenda featured a variety of sessions on timely topics such as state and tribal partnerships, marketing, and transit law. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, hear from keynote speakers, and network with colleagues from around the industry.
“We are incredibly proud of the overwhelming success of this year’s Summer Conference,” said Rich Sampson, Executive Director of the South West Transit Association. “The unprecedented turnout and engagement demonstrate the vital role our industry plays in shaping the future of transportation.”
Some of the highlights of the conference included:
- A keynote address by Veronica Vanterpool, Acting FTA Administrator, on recent updates and initiatives on behalf of the Federal Transit Association,
- A panel discussion on Updates on Flex Funding featuring experts from Texas DOT, FTA Region VI, Pennsylvania DOT, and Missouri DOT.
- A workshop on Using Disability Lens to Evaluate and Enhance Transit Facility Accessibility led by Ron Brooks, Founder & CEO of Accessible Avenue.
In addition to the educational sessions, the conference offered a number of networking opportunities, including a welcome reception, an exciting night out at the Fort Worth Stock Yards, and several social events. These events provided attendees with the chance to connect with colleagues in a relaxed setting.
