VIA Introduces Another Convenient Ticket-Buying Option for Riders
Fares and Passes Now Available through Uber App
SAN ANTONIO (May 8, 2023) —Beginning Monday, May 8, 2023, VIA Metropolitan Transit fares may also be purchased through the Uber app, in addition to the other convenient methods VIA already offers its riders, including the VIA goMobile+ app.
This expands access to transit for San Antonio residents and visitors alike who may have previously not considered using VIA’s services. Customers can take advantage of more options for transportation across San Antonio and Bexar County when they buy VIA fares and passes within the Uber app.
Once riders have selected their route, they can choose to purchase transit passes using their existing payment profile and purchased tickets are stored in the “Transit Tickets” section of the Uber app. Users can activate the fare when boarding the bus, even when they are offline. Riders simply can scan their passes using the onboard validation devices.
“This additional resource benefits our riders and helps us further progress our journey of simplifying accessibility,” VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. “We’re excited to offer additional fare options and help ensure VIA continues to connect our community to opportunity, support economic vitality and enhance quality of life throughout our region.”
By making mobile ticketing available in more applications, VIA provides riders with fare payment options and flexibility for trips on any VIA service, including regular bus service, VIA Link, VIAtrans paratransit service, and Park & Ride services. It ensures that mobile ticketing is instantly available to an already established user base providing a convenient experience to transfer to or ride VIA.
