Appropriations Hearing on Administration Budget
Legislative Alert from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA)
On Thursday, March 19, the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development held a hearing to discuss the Administration’s proposed budget. Each witness spoke specifically to their own agency needs, as well as the need for a larger investment in surface transportation infrastructure. The witnesses who gave testimony are listed below.

- The Honorable Therese W. McMillan, Acting Administrator, Federal Transit Administration
- The Honorable Dr. Mark R. Rosekind, Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
- The Honorable Paul N. Jaenichen Sr., Administrator, Maritime Administration
Each witness was asked about the Administration’s FY 2016 budget recommendations for their agencies by Members of the Subcommittee. Among the topics discussed were the Capital Investment Grant Program (New Starts and Small Starts), bus and bus facilities investments, the detrimental effects of a short-term funding patch, TIGER Discretionary Grant, existing infrastructure maintenance, as well as the growing demand on the larger transit systems.
