MAP21 - SWTA is listening!
MAP21, the new Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century law, authorizes funding for federal transit and highway programs through Fiscal Year (FY) 2014. The bill was signed into law, by President Obama, on July 6, 2012 (Public Law 112-141), completing a legislative process that spanned almost three years and 10 extensions of SAFETEA-LU. The law, as it pertains to operational reality, is revealing itself almost daily.
SWTA is holding discussions and listening sessions at all member state association meetings to collect comments on the pieces of the law that are beneficial and suggested solutions for those parts that need to be tweaked or changed. This information will lay a foundation to form position statements for a unified transit voice to be heard in Washington, DC.
