Heat Resiliency at Bus Stops

Tuesday, June 11, 2024 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

As summer temperatures continue to rise annually, so does the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Transit riders, spending a considerable portion of their journey outdoors, are particularly vulnerable to direct sun exposure. Join us for a webinar, Tuesday, June 11 (at 11am CDT) where we delve into Sun Tran’s recent case study on heat resiliency at bus stops and the implementation of an 'ideal bus stop' aimed at mitigating heat and keeping passenger’s cooler.

Mackenzi Wintermoyer is dedicated to enhancing public transit experiences as the Bus Stop Coordinator at Sun Tran. Since joining in July 2023, Mackenzi has taken charge of the oversight of nearly 2,200 bus stops. Her mission is to cultivate an inclusive and accessible bus stop program, ensuring that every transit rider enjoys a seamless journey within the Sun Tran system. In addition to maintaining the existing transit infrastructure, Mackenzi actively works to elevate bus stop amenities, contributing to the well-being of the community, environment, and economy. With a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Maryland, Mackenzi is embarking on a Master's journey in Urban Planning at the University of Arizona this fall.
