Leadership Lab 2026 Is Coming to Breckenridge

SWTA is excited to announce Leadership Lab 2026, coming to Breckenridge, Colorado, September 13–15, 2026. This unique leadership development experience is designed specifically for public transit professionals who are ready to strengthen their leadership skills, expand their industry knowledge, and build meaningful connections with peers from across SWTA Nation.

Leadership Lab offers an interactive learning environment focused on leadership growth, workforce development, communication, problem-solving, and the future of public transit. Set in the beautiful Colorado Rockies, the event will provide attendees with practical takeaways and valuable networking opportunities in a collaborative setting.

 

This year’s Leadership Lab is strategically scheduled immediately before the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA) Fall Conference, creating an exceptional opportunity for attendees to maximize their travel investment and participate in two outstanding industry events in one trip. Together, these events will offer an expanded experience featuring leadership development, industry education, peer networking, and collaboration with transit professionals from across the region.

Legislative Update: Major Developments in Federal Transit Policy

Congress continues to advance key legislation that could significantly impact public transit agencies nationwide. The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee recently approved a new five-year surface transportation authorization bill that includes increased funding for transit formula programs, expanded support for buses and bus facilities, and several policy changes aimed at streamlining project delivery and grant administration. Meanwhile, the House Appropriations Committee approved its FY27 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funding bill, which would maintain current transit formula funding levels while providing targeted investments in bus safety and infrastructure projects. Additional updates include new federal grant opportunities, proposed changes to federal grant regulations, updates to Title VI requirements, and an FTA request for input on measuring public transit service quality. These developments could have lasting impacts on agencies across SWTA Nation.

Last month, SWTA announced the appointment of Heather Dalmolin as the Association's new Executive Director. Since then, Heather has already begun connecting with members and industry partners throughout SWTA Nation, bringing energy, experience, and a strong commitment to advancing public transportation across our region.

Heather joins SWTA with a background in transit administration, finance, grants management, and organizational leadership, along with a passion for supporting the agencies, professionals, and communities that make public transit possible. As she steps into this role, her focus is on strengthening member engagement, fostering collaboration, and continuing to build value for SWTA members across rural, urban, and Tribal transit systems.

As one of the premier public transportation and mobility events in the Southwest, the conference brings together transit agencies, industry partners, consultants, manufacturers, technology providers, and mobility professionals for education, networking, leadership development, and industry collaboration. SWTA is seeking a destination partner capable of delivering an exceptional conference experience while showcasing the unique strengths of their community. Interested destinations are encouraged to review the complete Request for Proposals (RFP) and submit a proposal for consideration.
