EMBARK Launches Free Fare Pilot Program for OKC Streetcar

EMBARK has launched a new free fare pilot program for the OKC Streetcar, exploring how fare-free transit can improve accessibility, increase ridership, and support economic activity in downtown Oklahoma City. By temporarily removing fares, EMBARK will evaluate impacts on rider experience, service demand, and system efficiency while collecting data to inform future fare and funding decisions. The OKC Streetcar plays a vital role in connecting downtown destinations, businesses, and neighborhoods, and this initiative reflects a growing national conversation around fare-free transit as a tool for advancing equity and strengthening local economies. EMBARK’s pilot offers an important case study for transit agencies across the Southwest exploring innovative approaches to mobility and access.
